Caramelized Peaches

Description

Caramelized Peaches are an easy way to turn summer peaches into a sweet treat. They make for the perfect topping for a delicious dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Ripe Peaches (or nectarines!)
  • 2-4 Tablespoons Brown Sugar (see note 1)
  • 2 Tablespoons Filtered Water

Instructions

  1. Cut your Peaches in Half: Cut along the crease, or suture, of the peach. You want to rotate the peach so the blade of your knife goes around the pit. Twist the peach halves to separate them. One side will have the pit in it still. Gently remove it with your hands or a spoon.
  2. Slice the Peach Halves: Use your knife to thinly slice each peach half.
  3. Heat your Skillet: Get a large skillet and set it to medium heat. Wait until the pan is warm.
  4. Cook your Peaches: Add the peach slices to your skillet, making sure to add them in a single layer. Try to give each slice enough space to help prevent them from sticking together.
  5. Add the Other Ingredients: Add the brown sugar and the splash of water to your skillet peaches. Gently stir with a thin spatula to reduce the chance of breaking the peaches.
  6. Cook Down: Cook the peach mixture in the frying pan for about 4 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently. You want the peaches to become soft and the sugar water to have become a thick syrup.
  7. Serve: Add the peaches to a dessert, a bowl of ice cream, or let them cool in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Note 1: We've tried this recipe with white sugar and it worked just as well. The only difference was the end product was a little lighter in color. Coconut sugar will also work for this recipe and is a nice unrefined option.
  • Note 2: A little bit of unsalted butter (dairy-free), about a tablespoon will make for a richer set of peaches. Add it to the cooking down part of this recipe. When you melt butter into the peaches, they become richer. This makes for a more cozy feeling dessert that has more depth of flavor.
  • Note 3: try this recipe with our peach chia pudding.
