This Sweet Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Air Fryer Toasted Sandwich is a warm and gooey treat you need to try! It's such an easy recipe that is ready in just minutes. Just pop the sandwich in an air fryer basket and you've got the perfect comfort food.

Hey Internet, grab some of your favorite kind of bread because we're air frying some sandwiches. We've made a lot of easy air fryer recipes using our air fryer over the years, like our Crispy Butter Beans and Air Fryer Gnocchi. But we haven't made many sandwiches in it, so we decided to try making this quick meal.

And boy are we glad we did! This air fryer sandwich is filled with chocolate and peanut butter that turn into a melty goodness while cooking. And banana slices add a fresh yet slightly caramelized sweetness that balances out this simple recipe.

What's even better is that this recipe only has 4 ingredients and only takes about 10 minutes to make; prepping and cooking time included.

Get your slices of bread and let's get cooking!

Why You'll Love This Air Fryer Recipe

  • Simple Ingredients: With four ingredients that you can find around your house, you could probably make this right now!
  • Quick To Make: It only take 6 to 10 minutes in an air fryer.
  • Classic Combo: Peanut butter, chocolate, and banana: it's better than PB & J!

Ingredients

Pick up these simple ingredients the next time you're at a grocery store. See the recipe card at the bottom of this post for full ingredients, instructions, and accurate nutritional information (to the best of my ability; please consult your physician or healthcare professional if you have specific dietary needs or need to meet a certain daily value of any nutrient). I give substitutions for the ingredients in the section below this one, so most people can still make this recipe!

  • Two Slices of Bread: We used white bread to make this recipe, however, you are free to use whatever type you'd like. Note that it might affect the cook times.
  • 2-3 Tablespoons Peanut Butter: Almond butter or any nut butter or seed butter should work well if you can't eat peanut butter.
  • 1-2 Tablespoons Chocolate Chips: We used these amazing mini chocolate chips that melted great in the air fryer. But any chocolate that you like should work.
  • ¼ - ½ of a Banana, Sliced into Rounds: Depending on how big your banana is. If you have leftovers, you can freeze it for smoothies or nice cream if you can't eat it right away!

How to Make Toasted Sandwiches in an Air Fryer

  1. Spread the Peanut Butter: Put a layer of peanut butter on one side of each slice of bread. You want to be a little generous so it can hold the next ingredients in place.
  2. Add the Chocolate and Banana: Place the chocolate chips on top of the peanut butter of one of the slices of bread on a single layer. Put the banana on the other one, also in a single layer.
  3. Combine: Take one side of the sandwich and place it so the banana and chocolate meet. We recommend the top slice be the chocolate chip side as the chocolate will then melt over the banana. Shove back in any chocolate chips that fell outside of the bread.
  4. Cook: Add sandwich to air fryer basket and cook at 325 F (165 C) for about 6-10 minutes or until your bread is toasted golden brown. Make sure to flip it every 3 minutes to make sure you get an even browning for the best results.
  5. Serve: Let cool for about a minute and then enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this without an air fryer?

Yes! A frying pan is a good choice. You may need some butter or oil with you have a non-stick pan. We like using non-stick to make lighter feeling food with less calories!

Can I store this?

We would not recommend storing it for more than a few hours. The bread will get soggy. If you want to take it to go, let it cool and then add it to an airtight container.

Could this work with other fillings?

Yes! You may need to adjust the ingredient quantities a bit, but different fillings will work. You may want to jam instead of banana for more classic meal of PB and J. You could also try almond butter as a replacement for the peanut butter. There are so many other possibilities for choice of filling!

What other breads might you recommend?

We've made this with sprouted whole wheat bread and it's turned out great. You could also try a nice sourdough bread.

How many sandwiches could I make at once.

Depending on the size of your air fryer, you could make 2 to 4 at once. Try placing some slices in your air fryer basket before you make the sandwiches to see how many can fit.

I'm having trouble getting the chocolate chips to melt with my sandwich.

Add your chocolate chips to a small bowl and melt them in a microwave until soft. This should only take a few seconds and make them melt easier from the hot air in the air fryer.
