Vegan Garlic Toast is a super easy main or side to make. With a nice loaf of bread, this recipe comes together in just 20 minutes! Slice it up and then add vegan butter, minced garlic, and vegan parmesan cheese and then put it in oven. It's perfect with some pasta!

Hey Internet, are you ready for the best garlic bread recipe? We're talking about crispy, golden brown bread with buttery, garlicky goodness and vegan cheese on top. That, with a little fresh parsley on top, takes a simple load of Italian bread or a French baguette to the next level. If you try any of our recipes, it should be this one! It's fast and tasty!

We've based a lot of this recipe on our Vegan Garlic Bread. That recipe has some strengths, like keeping the herbs and garlic nice and moist inside. But it takes a bit of effort to only partly cut slits into the bread and then gently fill each one. We wanted a homemade garlic bread recipe that didn't leave us bent over a table for an extended period of time.

Also this recipe is essentially vegan Texas toast... but we think even better, making this the best vegan garlic bread recipe!

With just a little bit of softening, dairy-free butter (vegan margarine works too!) can be mixed with all the ingredients and then easily spread on the tops of some sliced bread. That's much faster than before. This recipe is the perfect side dish with some Vegan Meat Sauce Pasta or some pasta with Tofu Meatballs. You could also dip it in Tomato Soup or in some red sauce.

What's great about this recipe is that your can freeze the slices for some easy meal prep. We did that recently by separating each piece with a little parchment paper and then putting them in a freezer safe bag. Then, we just stuck it in an air fryer and cooked it for 2 to 3 minutes and it was just as good as when it was fresh. All you have to do is make sure you don't eat it all when it comes out of the oven!

Why You'll Love This Easy Vegan Garlic Bread Recipe

  • 7 Ingredients: Not only are there only a few ingredients, they're are all easy to prepare. This side has become a favorite recipe in our house.
  • Easy and Low Effort: Slice bread and then butter the tops of them. It's such an easy recipe!
  • Crowd Pleaser: Everyone will love this crispy garlic bread.

Ingredients

Pick up the following simple ingredients for this crispy vegan garlic bread the next time you're at a grocery store. See the recipe card at the bottom of this post for full ingredients, instructions, and accurate nutrition information (to the best of my ability; please consult your physician, registered dietitian, or healthcare professional if you have specific dietary needs or need to meet certain daily values of any nutrient). I give substitutions for the ingredients in the section below this one, so most people can still make this recipe!

  • 1 16 oz Italian Loaf or Similar Bread, Unsliced: We think rustic Italian or Tuscan-style loaves make the best best bread for this recipe. Other great breads include sourdough bread, French bread, and even Ciabatta would be great to put everything on. The right bread can make this recipe gluten-free. Just make sure it's unsliced so you can control the thickness of the toast! (It will work pre-sliced, we just like our slices EXTRA THICK!)
  • 7-8 Cloves of Fresh Garlic, Peeled and Minced: You can use jarred garlic if you like... or, and this would be next level, you could use roasted garlic for even more garlic flavor!
  • ½ Cup Vegan Butter, Unsalted, Softened: Some plant-based butter brands include Earth Balance, which we used for this recipe, and Miyoko's Creamery. You want unsalted because salted versions might make this recipe way to salty!
  • ⅓ Cup Vegan Parmesan: Violife brand parmesan is our go to for vegan parmesan that melts well. It just does such a good job as a vegan replacement and it last a long time in the fridge if you store it in a reusable bag.
  • ¼ Cup Chopped Parsley
  • ½ Teaspoon Fresh Cracked Black Pepper (if you've only ever bought pre-ground black pepper, you don't know what you're missing. Fresh cracked is SO GOOD.)
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt, Or To Taste (Sea salt is nice, but table salt will work)

Substitutions

  • Vegan Butter: Margarine can be used in a pinch if you can't find vegan butter sticks. Olive oil can work too!
  • Vegan Parmesan: Other vegan cheese should work just as well. Vegan mozzarella would be perfect as a replacement. Can't find any vegan cheese near you? Our 5-minute Vegan Mozzarella Stretchy Cheese Sauce or our Vegan Ricotta would also work great in this recipe! Simply prepare the recipe as instructed and spread on the sliced bread. You could mix in the garlic and butter or do it in separate layers.
  • Garlic: Minced Garlic from a jar will work almost as well if you don't have garlic cloves. It's just hard to beat fresh ingredients. You could also mix in 1-2 teaspoons (to taste) of garlic powder into the butter mixture instead.
  • Parsley: Dried parsley will work in a pinch. You could also try other fresh herbs with this recipe, like fresh basil, sprinkled on top.
  • Additions: Like it spicy? Add some red pepper flakes! You could also add some nutritional yeast for an extra boost of savory flavor.

How to Make Homemade Vegan Garlic Bread

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 F Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius) while you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. Slice the Bread: Using a serrated bread knife, evenly slice your bread. You want to have large cuts to help keep the centers of the toast soft and delightful.
  3. Prepare Baking Tray: Cover a half-size sheet tray with some parchment paper or aluminum foil. Then place your bread slices on the tray.
  4. Mix the Vegan Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, add your softened vegan butter, minced garlic, black pepper, and salt. Mix them together with a spatula.
  5. Butter the Bread: Take the butter mixture and add it to each slice of bread. Make sure to add a little of the garlic mixture to each piece at a time to make sure each one gets an even amount of the mixture.
  6. Cover in Vegan Cheese: Shred the vegan parmesan over the bread to cover the tops of each.
  7. Bake: Place the tray in the in the oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until your bread is to the crispiness you desire.
  8. Serve: Sprinkle on fresh parsley and enjoy!

Storage Instructions

This recipe can last in the fridge for 1-2 days. Place the remaining slices in an airtight container. They last much longer in the freezer. To make sure they don't stick together, wrap each slice in parchment paper, then add them to a freezer safe bag.

Great Plant-Based Recipes to Serve With
